In het Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles werden voor de 87ste keer de beeldjes uitgereikt. De film Birdman was de grote winnaar van de Oscars 2015. De film won 4 prijzen waaronder die voor Beste film. Verder mocht Julianne Moore de award voor Beste actrice meenemen en kreeg Eddie Redmayne de prijs voor Beste acteur.
